Get started with the Library!

Welcome to the Geneva Graduate Institute Library! We look forward to meeting you. Here are some tips and activities to help you get started:

1. DISCOVER THE LIBRARY
Check our calendar and join a guided tour to learn about our services, collections, how to use the Swisscovery catalogue, and quiz yourself! Tours are conducted in English. No registration required.

Meet at the Library reception: Daily, from Tuesday 22 September to Friday 25 September — 12:15 pm (60 min)

Why participate?
To get ready for your research activities as a student.

2. REGISTER ON SWISSCOVERY
Swisscovery gives you access to millions of documents across 500+ Swiss academic libraries. Save time and register now!

Why register?
To benefit from services such as loans, reservations, and purchase suggestions.

3. KEEP YOUR STUDENT CARD WITH YOU
Your student card is also your library card. Update it at least monthly at the Institute’s reception desk or at the entrance of the cafeteria.

Why have your student card at the Library?
To borrow books, print documents, access Bubbles (team-working spaces), and open doors when the main building is closed to the public (especially on Sundays).

4. DOWNLOAD THE VPN
Access e-resources from home by downloading and logging into the Institute VPN.

Why use it?
To ensure full access to e-collections when you’re off-campus.

5. REGISTER FOR LIBRARY WORKSHOPS
Learn how to use Zotero, cite sources correctly, and manage research data effectively. Check the calendar and sign up.

Why participate?
To improve your information literacy skills.

6. EXPLORE THE ARCHIVES
Discover rare and historical collections with our archivist. Tours are conducted in English. No registration required.

Meet at the Library reception:
> Wednesday, 23 September — 12:30 pm (60 min)
> Thursday, 24 September — 12:30 pm (60 min)
