Civil resistance against systems of oppression: Discover the Right Livelihood Collection in Salon Davis

Display of books for the Right Livelihood exhibition, including Edward Snowden, Maude Barlow, and Denis Mukwege

Visit our latest book exhibition and step into stories of courage and resistance. A guest post by Right Livelihood.

Right Livelihood honours individuals and organisations working for a more just, peaceful and sustainable world for all.

Today, our work goes beyond presenting the Award. We provide Laureates with long-term support — raising their profile, highlighting their solutions, offering protection when their lives and liberty are at risk, and connecting them with academia and wider networks.

Through powerful stories of resistance, this exhibition introduces you to Laureates who refuse to accept the world as it is, and instead dare to imagine what it could be. It features a significant selection of books written by women Laureates detailing their experiences of rising up against systemic oppression.

Across continents and causes, resistance takes many forms. It can mean:

  • Providing independent journalism and defending access to information
  • Advancing innovation and technology in the service of democracy
  • Challenging patriarchal, legal and religious systems
  • Protecting Indigenous rights and resisting extractive and colonial systems
  • Leading nonviolent movements for justice and change

What unites these voices is their determination to act, often at great personal risk, to build a more just, peaceful and sustainable world.

Visit Salon Davis to explore the book exhibition in person, or access the full collection catalogue online.
